The Lions Club Chinchilla
First charted 22nd June 1965. WE ARE 50 YEARS YOUNG.
The Tatts hotel was the meeting place for around 27 LIONS.
First President was Nev Linde (now Passed)
First Secretary was Bob Burgess
First Treasurer was Bill Whitestyles.
Longest member to date and still attending is John Bender with 49.5 years
service and close by is John Stevenson with 49 years. They have now been certified life members.
OUR ONGOING PROJECTS
Annual White Elephant stall/auction. Our first one was held back in 1973 and has raised in excess of $80000 to date. Monies raised has been donated to initially construct “Illoura” retirement village.
Lions youth of the year program. Lions youth exchange program. Lions youth insearch program. Lions prostate cancer program. Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Just to name a few.
We have donated a great some of money to various people and groups here in Chinchilla and outside. In excess of $30000 to the Lions Club International Fund which enabled our club to award 25 Melvin Jones Fellowships. $10000 also to the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation for fellowships. These funds go towards childhood cancer research.
Constructed the large machinery shed in the Chinchilla Museum ground.
Constructed Tanderra Cementary
Constructed meals on wheels kitchen.
Constructed scoreboard in the Rec grounds. The bus shelter near McDonalds.
Ongoing improvement of “THE DEN” and the”LIONS PARK”
Community fundraiser to purchase TWO AMBULANCES.
